Any complications you cannot handle please call us right away. If you cannot reach us, seek assistance at the nearest hospital immediately.
BLEEDING:
To reduce or stop bleeding
a. Do Not Spit out saliva or blood coming out of an extraction socket. Swallow it or let it drool on tissue to avoid postoperative bleeding.
b. Bite on Gauze with firm steady pressure for one hour before discarding safely in a waste container. If it still bleeds after that, insert the new gauze provided and bite on it for one more hour.
c. If bleeding persists after two hours, apply a Wet Tea Bag for about 20 minutes.
d. If that does not help, SEEK ASSISTANCE AT THE NEAREST HOSPITAL.
KEEP YOUR HEAD ELEVATED when eating and sleeping. This will reduce both bleeding and swelling.
PAIN:
If you have pain and discomfort, which is common after dental surgery, take regular painkillers (Tylenol or Advil). If you are allergic to the above painkillers and/or cannot take them, take the painkillers prescribed by the dentist.
FOOD:
a. Do Not Eat for Three Hours or until the anesthesia wears off, whichever is longer.
b. Avoid Sodas and Alcoholic Beverages for 24 hours.
c. Stay on Clear Liquids then increase to cold or soft diet for the first 24 hours. Avoid using straws. After that, you may return to a normal diet, as comfort will allow. Avoid sharp or crunchy foods for several days.
ORAL HYGIENE:
a. Toothbrush: May be carefully used in the area of the mouth not involved by surgical procedures. A clean mouth heals better.
b. Do Not Rinse or use mouthwash for at least 24 hours. After 24 hours, rinse with warm salt water, If not suffering from high blood pressure (1/2 teaspoon of table salt in 8 oz. of warm water every 4 hours is recommended).
c. Avoid Smoking for 48 hours. Smoking will increase the time it takes for you to heal.
SUTURES:
If they are used, do not fail to return for the removal
