It can
cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough
tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from
breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to
cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover
a dental implant. Crown can be made of only Porcelain or Porcelain fused to Metal or only Metal. The proper material is selected by your dentist that would suit your particular needs.
Usually making a crown is done in two visits. On the first visit, the tooth is shaped and impressions are taken and sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the crown. In the meanwhile, a temporary crown is fabricated and cemented with temporary cement. On the second visit, the parmanent crown fabricated to fit your tooth is already back from the laboratory. The temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented with a strong cement. Any high spots in the crown or tight contact points are adjusted to ensure a good fit in the mouth. |
